Etna Outdoor

We have been asked by many of our guests how to best visit Etna. The tallest active volcano in Europe is definitely a must-see when visiting Sicily. It is beautiful to trek to the summit or simply enjoy many of the scenic routes around the national park. With all the beautiful options available on Etna, it is difficult for us to give a definite answer to the question. We hope to be able to keep on suggesting new ways to discover the many beautiful places and experiences that Etna offers.

In order to reach the summit, you are legally requested to use the Gruppo Guide Alpine Etna Sud.

In this blog we will talk about Etna Outdoor. We recently interviewed two young guides that deserve a post on our Blog. Etna OUtdoor is run by Tony Currenti. Tony and his brother offer guided treks around the woods at approx. 2,000m of altitude (summit is about 3,400m).

How do you choose your trails?

- mostly assessing the group's needs, physical abilities, and the weather conditions. Our favourite outings are on Monti Sartorius, la Bottoniera 2002, and Valle del Bove.

What do you offer during the tours?

- we make sure we keep everyone safe, we make it fun and we provide lots of information ranging from geological to volcanological facts.

Do you provide anything else expect Etna tours?

- we love wine and Etna is the perfect place to discover Sicilian grapes such as Nerello Mascalese. We organise wine tours as well.

What do people need to take with them on your guided tours?

- the equipment depends on the season, but Etna is far from being an "extreme mountain". We normally advise our clients to make sure they got good trekking shoes (lava is sharp and very hard!) and they dress with several layers. Let's not forget sunscreen. For more advanced treks, we will review the equipment with our clients before starting.

How do your clients reach you/Etna?

- we make sure we offer a full service including transportation. We have our own 8-seat van to take our small groups around Etna.

What languages do you give the tours in?

- we speak English and Spanish (and native in Italian and Sicilian). We also cooperate with French speaking guides.

What certifications do you have?

- we are fully licensed touristic drivers (to offer the transit) and we are AIGAE guides (Albo Nazionale Guide Ambientali Escursionistiche www.aigae.org).

Do you provide any insurance for your clients?

- we have an RC insurance and we are happy to share details with our customers before booking. We recommend anyone booking guided tours to learn about insurance before going.

How can people contact you?

- write us an email
